Dr Cassie Mitchell brings a unique insight to this episode with her experience as a patient, an Olympic Paralympian and as a female professor in a stereotypical male dominated field. She is an Assistant Professor in Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology. She is also the principal investigator of the Laboratory for Pathology Dynamics, which uses a combination of big data, machine learning, biostatistics, and informatics-based techniques to identify complex disease etiology, predict new therapeutics, and optimise current interventions. Cassie’s research has predominantly targeted neuropathology, but her research applications in predictive medicine expand across all clinical specialties, including cancer, pediatrics, and cardiovascular medicine.
